How to get your Google Tag Manager container ID (optional, advanced)

Find your Google Tag Manager container ID (optional).

These are the same steps you see beside the settings in your shop's back office.

  1. Most shops don't need this: Analytics and Ads above work on their own. Use Tag Manager if a marketing agency asks for it.
  2. Press Open Google Tag Manager, sign in and press Create account.
  3. Account name: your shop name. Country: United Kingdom. Container name: your shop's web address. Target platform: Web. Press Create and accept the terms.
  4. Google shows the install code. Close it and copy the ID at the top of the page, starting with GTM-.
  5. Paste it into Tag Manager container ID here and press Save. Remember to press Submit in Tag Manager each time you change tags there.

Don't add Google Analytics both here and inside Tag Manager, or every visit is counted twice. Shop events (view_item, add_to_cart, purchase) are sent to the data layer for Tag Manager to use.
